This mix was '45' in my 'Year of Music' series. I have renamed it 'Until The Sun Comes Up' because it evokes memories from when I was younger (partly thanks to the classic Norma Jean Bell track) of pulling all nighters and dancing all night, sometimes until the sun showed itself the following morning, though sometimes that was dragging myself home feeling a little worse for wear too. Still looking forward to the next night though.
The image used is the same image used originally for this mix, just used in a slightly different way. It is a photo I took myself in 2006 when I visited New York and it is one of those American cities along with the likes of Chicago and Detroit that you associate with house, disco and electronic music. So that was the reason behind the image choice.
This was actually my first house mix for a couple of years at the time I posted it in early 2022. Previous to this I spent a couple of years playing more ambient and contemporary jazz etc, partly because I'd been targeted by an anonymous troll who was pretty persistent in telling me that my mixes were rubbish (though not as gentle in language). There was a period where I was deleting and blocking comments daily on the platforms I used. After a while they just disappeared, perhaps moving onto someone else, perhaps helped by me deleting Facebook, or maybe they just got bored. Thankfully they've not appeared again because it's pretty disheartening, especially when it correlates with a drop in interactions on the platforms, again that ties in with leaving Facebook. I know I'm not the best 'DJ' out there, I'm not trying to be, nor do I want big gigs or anything that the majority in this world seem to aspire to and value, I just do it as an interest and share online because any kind of positive feedback does help keep the fire burning, though not essential to me. Regardless, I've kept going with it as music and putting mixes together across lots of genres has been a part of my life for a long time, my first turntables were rubbish (well used) belt drives back in 1995, but I was obsessed with electronica music and music more widely for years before that. It's been a big part of life for me and it will be for as long as I'm still here.
Anyway, I diverged more than I planned there. If you want to know what the 'Year of Music' I mentioned is about, you can find out more [HERE]. If you prefer a Soundcloud link, you can find it [HERE], though I'm not sure if my Soundcloud will always be about, it's a cost thing.
