Regular visitors to the blog will be aware that Matthew Kyle is an artist whose work I really enjoy. I enjoy his music to such an extent that his first vinyl release on Diner City Sounds, also the labels first ever release, happened to be my first vinyl purchase in over 5 years. By the time you take postage into account, it cost me almost £13 or just over $20, for a four track EP. Now, like a lot of people at the moment, I don't have a lot of spare income but I like to support the artists that I enjoy by buying their music and seeing as the word from the label was that this was going to be a vinyl only release, I picked the record up.
It was very disappointing to learn this morning that the label Diner City Sound has taken the decision to release the music digitally. Obviously disappointing to people like myself who forked out £13 for a release that, seeing as I use CDJ's, I have to rip into to digital format for my own use anyway, and disappointing for the people who enjoy something being exclusively available on vinyl and the limited availability that should bring.
Okay, so everything I've just typed is a bit of an annoyance but at the end of the day, I've had the vinyl for about a year now so its not that big a deal. What is a big deal in my eyes and that of many others, is that despite several releases of Matthew's work, a re-press of this particular release which Matthew was not made aware of, still owing money to Matthew for these releases, the label has distributed the EP for digital release without Matthew giving it the 'go ahead'.
It is for this reason that Matthew is giving the complete EP away for free download in full 320 MP3 format, something which I fully support. Do yourself a favour and download this EP now, leave Matthew a comment of support and steer clear of this label.
